"A HARMONY YOUTH PROJECT" CHARITY NUMBER: 1129290

These knife crime workshops have been specifically designed to raise awareness among young people about the hazards of carrying knives or other bladed articles.

workshop

Our knife crime education programmes will reduce violence. Firstly, increasing awareness of the consequences of knife crime will deter young people from carrying a knife or using a knife as a weapon. Young people may talk to their friends and family about the consequences of knife carrying and knife crime, further spreading awareness. Secondly, increased awareness will change attitudes about how acceptable it is to carry a knife and may encourage young people to challenge their peers for carrying knives or involvement in knife crime.

The course also focuses on building confidence, communication skills and self-esteem, while inspiring the participants to engage in education, training, and employment. We use a combination of proven methodologies which have a proven track record of working within the custodial setting and within the community from teenagers to those in gangs.

All our workshops are delivered by dynamic facilitators and the workers are labelled as those with experiences of violence, gang affiliation and or offending behaviour. We employ diverse learning styles, including role-play and engaging discussions, fostering an environment that encourages questions and active participation. Our primary goal is to empower our learners, enabling them to develop a deeper understanding of knife crime.

Our Aim

Our primary aim is to help young people understand the impact that knife crime can have on individuals, families and communities while developing the skills and knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their own safety. These workshops equip young people with the information and abilities they need to make wise decisions and steer clear of knife crime.

Within the knife crime workshops is included a range of activities and discussions aimed at raising awareness of the risks associated with carrying knives. They may include talks from gang experts or victims of knife crime, as well as interactive exercises and role-playing scenarios. The aim is to help young people understand the impact that knife crime can have on individuals, families, and communities, and to develop the skills and knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their own safety.

The knife workshop will be interactive and hands-on, featuring a range of activities and exercises designed to engage participants and encourage active learning. These include group discussions and debates on the causes and effects of knife crime, also role-plays and scenarios to explore different responses to knife crime incidents. The course will include practical demonstrations of first aid techniques and emergency procedures. There will also be guest speakers from Police community organisations, front line, knife crime workers, and other relevant groups.

Our winning with youth workshops changes young people’s attitudes to knife crime; debunking the myth that carrying a knife will protect you. They strengthen peer values; ensuring young people give better advice to each other and make positive choices to stay safe.
